Lainshaw Lions .... an update

At Lainshaw Lions every day we have a variety of free play

and organised activities that the children choose what they would like to do .
We have all play types set up each and everyday , including natural play . All our staff take it in turn to choose their area to set up and organise .
We are so lucky to have the grass area across from The Centre to play outdoors as well as our very own garden area . Look out for the new fence going up at the grass area , Thank you East Ayrshire Council for helping keep our children safe near the road .
We also thank East Ayrshire Council for our very own new seat made out of pallets and the plant pots at each side of this . Our children planted heathers in this . The seat was made by Davie who is in the photo once he dropped the seat of at us .
We bake , and in the photo the inspiration came from Stuart who is one of our staff when he is not at University .
As you can see we make home made games like the ten pin bowling made out of water bottles . Also home made bubbles was a great success with the children .
We were lucky enough to support families during lockdown and wish every family a very Merry Christmas and thank you for your continued support . We are closing on 18th December at 6pm and reopen when the schools do on the 6th January 2021 .

Kilmaurs ’ Weston Tavern installs life-saving defibrillator

The Weston Tavern and Restaurant in Kilmaurs has become

the latest East Ayrshire venue to install a life-saving defibrillator with help from charity St John Scotland .
The defibrillator , which can help save someone ’ s life if they have a cardiac arrest , has been installed on the side wall of the restaurant on the town ’ s Main Street . It is available 24 / 7 for use in an emergency .
Weston Tavern owner John Cairns organised a number of fundraising initiatives to raise the money needed , which brought in huge support from the local community . Local businesses donated prizes for a raffle and put collecting cans in their premises throughout last year , while an Easter egg roll and virtual duck race also helped them reach their total .
John said : “ We knew there were two defibrillators already in Kilmaurs but they are inside premises so you can ’ t get to them when they are closed . We thought we would have a go at raising enough money to install one at the Weston and were blown away by how successful it was . Then we saw St John Scotland had worked with the Boys ’ Brigade to put a defibrillator in Stewarton so we approached them to see if they could help us get it up and running . We ’ d like to thank everyone who contributed towards the project , we hope we ’ ll never need to use it but it ’ s great that it ’ s there to make Kilmaurs safer for everyone .”
If used within the first few minutes of cardiac arrest , the defibrillator can significantly increase a person ’ s chances of survival . When switched on , it reads aloud instructions , so can be used by anyone with no training required .
Speaking as she helped unveil the defibrillator this week , Chair of St John Scotland ’ s Ayrshire and Arran area volunteers , Rose-Ann Cuninghame , said : “ We ’ re incredibly impressed by the great community effort of everyone in Kilmaurs to raise money for this defibrillator . Around 70 people each week in Scotland have a sudden cardiac arrest , but currently , only around one in ten will survive . We want to work with communities

across Ayrshire to make sure more people know how to do CPR , and have easy access to a defibrillator .”
She continued : “ Our local volunteers will be working with the Weston Tavern team to organise a community training day when the Covid situation allows . In the meantime , anyone responding to a cardiac arrest can access the defibrillator by dialling 999 .”
St John Scotland are also encouraging other communities across Ayrshire to get in touch if they would like help to install a defibrillator locally .
