Bonnet Guild Remembrance Sunday

It was a Remembrance Sunday with

a difference this year , as uniformed organisations across the town laid wreaths individually at the War Memorial , instead of the usual ceremony and parade organised by the Bonnet Guild .
Hugh Gillies , Bonnet Guild President laid a wreath in memory of the fallen and represented the Guild at St Columba ’ s Remembrance Service . He also recorded a special remembrance message for broadcast at John Knox Church . Katie Paterson , Corsehill Queen 2020 also paid her respects , laying a wreath separately on behalf of the Court .
The Bonnet Guild would like to thank East Ayrshire Council and Police Scotland who worked tirelessly with members to try and identify safe solutions in the run up to the ceremony to allow it to proceed .
Thanks too to Lorna Cook Allen Peacock for sharing these beautiful , old photographs of Stewarton ’ s War Memorial in it ’ s original standing place , Avenue Square circa 1921 / 22 .
Hugh Gillies said “ On behalf the Bonnet Guild I would like to thank the Stewarton community for all their support this year . Although the traditional Bonnet Guild calendar of events hasn ’ t been able to run quite as planned , we would like to acknowledge the heart-warming response to our alternative , ‘ virtual ’ arrangements over the summer and for the community ’ s ongoing support and understanding . Our continued and sincere thanks too to all NHS staff , emergency workers , social carers , essential workers and our local traders who continue to operate in such challenging times ; here ’ s to a much better 2021 ! Wishing everyone a safe , healthy and happy Christmas ”.
