During lockdown Lainshaw Woods provided a much-needed space for many to escape the confinements of home . Two local mums , Joanna Deeks-Nisbet and Marion Gilbert , were eager to express their gratitude and

So , they set about raising money , through crowdfunding , to purchase a storytelling seat for the woods and provide funds for the local charity SWAT ( Stewarton Woodlands Action Trust ).
The ladies set up a sponsored run during last August and covered 100 miles , by running 3 times a week through Lainshaw Woods and within Stewarton . They also organised an online raffle and Stewarton businesses were eager to help out by donating lots of fantastic prizes . Prizes were donated by David Gilbert Photography , The Mill House , Bizzie Lizzie ’ s Flowers , Coffee Pot , Kidslingo Spanish Ayrshire , Manna Family Bakery , Indulge Nail and Beauty Parlour , Ellie ’ s Kidswear , Fast Rider Cycles , Mary Ann Gilbert Physiotherapy , Swan and Horn Publishers , Marion Gilbert Art , Linengreen Interiors and Specially For You .
The storytelling seat along with 4 mushroom seats , all designed and produced by the local company David Ogilvie Engineering Ltd , are located in Lainshaw Woods just off David Dale Avenue . Both Joanna and Marion would like to thank everyone that supported the cause and hope that the seating is enjoyed by all , for many years to come .

Girl Guides keep calm & carry on !

The 1st Stewarton Friday night Girl Guides have continued to have their guide meetings every week throughout the Covid pandemic .

As a Guide unit we have been running for over 100 years and we decided a Pandemic was not going to prevent us from continuing to have our Guide meetings . We have managed to all get together using virtual guiding and various forms of communication platforms and social media . We have done scavenger hunts , treasure trails , baking cakes a variety of crafts , quizzes , games , and outdoor challenges , we learned about nature , the sky at night , endangered animals , world issues and the environment to name just a few things . The girls have gained several interest badges along the way , and we have welcomed new guides into our unit throughout the year .
We have been able to keep in touch with each other and support each other through this trying time and I am very proud of all the girls and their achievements and the way they have supported , encouraged , and cared about each member of their unit . We hope to move forward by returning to face to face guiding very soon and look forward once again to being together in our Guide Hall .
If anyone would like to join the Friday night guides or want some information then please feel free to contact me on 07903 203168 Doreen Sharp , Guide Guider .
