Highlighting the art in ‘ StewARTon

There are many talented individuals residing in Stewarton , including our own local artist Rebekah Loughran- Muir , who is fast becoming known in Ayrshire as the artist who paints in a bold , loose , contemporary style .

Rebekah has lived and grown up in Stewarton , moving away to travel the world in her younger years then returning to have her family . Her life growing up was full of encouragement to draw , paint and play music , in a home with no TV and nights to fill doing something fun . Hobbies were mainly music , art and all sorts of animal keeping .
She has passed on these artistic traits to her children , knowing how important Art and Music are , to create a positive , uplifting environment and to keep families close . Rebekah is mainly self-taught , although following on from art at school , she went on to complete a Masters in Art and is a member of several art institutes , including The Royal Glasgow Institute , RSA and The OSA group .
2018 brought her art to the front of media attention , when she was asked to be interviewed for the local newspaper and then for the TV , BBC Scotland and TV channel RTE Ireland , as well as the local radio station . ‘ It all seemed surreal ‘ Rebekah said , ‘ in just a couple of weeks of my first solo art show opening , i was on the BBC news after ANDY WORHOL !’
2019 She won the ‘ Peoples choice ‘ Portrait Award competition , and then was asked as the wildcard entry choice for the TV show : Landscape artist of the year . She went on to show her art as part of the Newton Stewart Folk festival alongside the famous singer songwriter Dougie McLean .
This was also the start of Rebekah ’ s charity commitment , she decided to make her art a healing tool by using the money from her art sales to provide for the homeless . She met with the chairman of the Halliday Foundation in Glasgow , they spoke over ideas and her art sales and commissioned work has since been used to provide food and shelter for the homeless in Scotland . ‘ This feels like a calling ‘ Rebekah said , ‘ As my art is in the most beautiful of homes to be enjoyed but it is also helping those that have nothing ‘.
2020 Rebekah started designing alongside the Interior design company Viking Direct , based in the seaside location Largs . She paints and provides a unique product for clients looking to refurbish their home .
Having built two homes , Rebekah has experience of design as well as an adventurous style .
Her art reflects this , with a contemporary flair , she uses palette knives to mix textured paint , she paints quickly , loosely , and is described as having an energy about her art , with boldness and colour . She does not paint a photographic copy , but instead looks for a way to show her personality , a sense of adventure and passion through her art . specialising in Large Statement art pieces , to create a wow factor .
Each art piece is made to order , bespoke , personalised , with colours to suit her client ’ s taste . This is what she excels at , creating an original bespoke statement Art piece for each individual person . New homeowners , house refurbishes , and interior designers are loving her work . She offers a professional product , and uses quality paints on professional grade canvas . Her completed art is sealed and ready to hang Raw , or with an option to frame .
There also has been a lot of interest in midsize artwork , these being commissioned as unique gifts , for weddings , special birthdays , anniversaries etc . As well as this , Rebekah has the option to purchase an art gift voucher , where a client can choose the amount , they wish to gift , others can also add to the voucher amount and then the recipient on receiving the voucher can plan with Rebekah their own art commission .
The planning process is really fun ... Rebekah usually meets her customers to discuss size , style , and colours . An art piece is then designed incorporating everything , it is made to measure , and to suit a customer ’ s style and home . With a keen eye for noticing a person ’ s style , Rebekah can pick up a lot during this meeting . She has also been told on several occasions how great it is to have someone sort out the house ‘ look ’, without the need to trail around the shops looking for the right picture ... instead Rebekah offers a stress free , exciting shopping experience . The customer is always in charge of the price , as this is calculated by size , they can also drop by and view their commission and the progress halfway through , and chat over any changes required . ‘ I am really excited to offer my ART to people that are looking for something different , something awesome and I get so much enjoyment knowing that i am part of making their home special , their happy space unique and personal , and more than that , is that i am also helping a really fantastic charity through my creations !
