The Masonic Lodge in Stewarton celebrates its 250th year

Brethren , I hope this finds you well . We have had a couple of very well attended Zoom meetings over the last couple of months .

Among the many attendees , there was some great news for R Rosbotham , W Nightingale and J Bright , who each received their 50-year diplomas . A fantastic achievement and something to be very proud of .
In local news , we can announce we have presented £ 250 cheques to several organisations . Each was delighted to receive their donation , and we look forward to working with the Scouts , Guides , Boys Brigade , Helping Hands and Rascals Child Care again in future .
Finances for these aforementioned cheques were raised from our 250th raffle . Big thanks goes to A Macdonald and Max Galt , who were the brains behind this idea and made it a huge success .
As well as monies raised from tickets , some Brethren have kindly donated other raffle prizes . Due to the success of this raffle , it has since been proposed that we also hold a Christmas hamper raffle , with tickets priced at £ 2.00 each .
Elsewhere we want to give a mention to Archie Chalmers ’ book , titled : ‘ Historical Notes on Lodge Thistle No . 127 ’.
This publication is essential reading for Brethren of 127 . It traces the Lodge history over 250 years . Research has been carried out over many years and we ’ d like to applaud him on this in-depth , diligently researched work .
Copies of the book are available to purchase for £ 8 and can be picked up from Ian Hamilton at 22 Arran View .
Stay safe brethren and hopefully we can meet up soon .

20th Ayrshire Stewarton Scout Group - news round up

The Scout Group are back either meeting virtually or outside face to face . Luckily , the weather has been kind to us .

The Scouts have had a scavenger hunt around the town and in the woods . They took part in a mapping exercise which led them to the Sugar Cube and were rewarded with an ice cream . They have built fires in the hall grounds and cooked bread twists .
The Cubs are just back face to face outside and have been to a local park . They must meet in two sections because of the numbers . They have had many Virtual programmes .
The two Beaver colonies have been meeting face to face outside . Programmes have included hikes , scavenger hunts , bug hunts , coin rubbing and decorating stones kindly donated by the Cobble Shop . Last Wednesday Beavers finished with a sausage sizzle and an Awards Ceremony . Seven Beavers received their Chief
Scout ' s Bronze Award which is the highest award in Beavers . The District Commissioner for Ayrshire East , Brian Goldie presented the badges and certificates helped by Group Scout Leader Thomas Sloan . Thanks to all the Leaders and Committee of the Scout Group for continuing to give our large number of young people varied an exciting programme throughout this difficult time . We have been extremely fortunate to receive two donations from local organisations Stewarton Initiatives and the Masonic Lodge . Thank you to both organisations .

news from stewarton allotments

After a very cold winter which crept into early spring the members at the allotments are running a few weeks late with our fruit and vegetables this growing season . Looking back on old records we reckon we are three to four weeks behind where we normally are with plants . The good news is everything is catching up and it will not be long until the members are dropping off bags of vegetables to their relatives , friends and neighbours .
For the first time in a couple of years we managed to have a work party day , where members spend a couple of hours working on the communal areas of the site . Weeding , hedge trimming , cleaning the polytunnel and cutting the grass are the main jobs performed . It was great to see members working safely together improving the overall appearance of the site .
After the disappointment of not being able to have our open day this year we ' re really hoping that the 14th August this year will allow us to invite visitors in to look around the plots , buy some fresh vegetables and grab a cuppa and a slice of cake or two . Please check local social media channels nearer the time for confirmation .
