A
t the end of this school year Ralston
Valley will have to say goodbye to someone
who has been here with us since the beginning. As of March 31st, Mr. Jim Hynes will
no longer be our Vice Principal or Athletic
Director. But his legacy at RV will not soon
be forgotten. Ralston Valley has been rated a
Colorado school of since 2005, and we have
won more than 10 state championships and
countless league and conference titles, with
his help.
The Review sat down with Hynes and
talked with him about why he is retiring.
“The timing felt right” he said, about his
sudden retirement “I’ve been in jeffco for 32
years and with Ellis leaving it felt like a good
time to turn it over to someone new.”
When we asked him what he’d be doing, Hynes said, “I’ll take it easy for a few
months, play some golf do a little fishing,
and just relax.” However, after a moment
he added, with a laugh: “Then I’ll find a job
because I still have bills to pay.”
How do you feel about your work at
Ralston Valley was the last question of the
interview. With pursed lips Mr. Hynes leaned
back in his chair, furrowed his brow and
thought for a moment and then spoke: “I
have mixed emotions, it’s very bittersweet.
It will be difficult to leave because it’s such
a great school. But I’m proud I’ve helped
make it such a great school.”
It will also be bittersweet for our school
to say goodbye to Mr. Hynes. As such a crucial part of our school since the very beginning, it will be hard, yet elated to watch him
leave. Hynes has worked hard for the past 32
years, to improve the student experience in
Jeffco. He is deserving of a break, and when
he does find another job we all know he will
be very successful. I think that Mr. Fleischman summed up Mr. Hynes’s career here
at RV. “He was a good man to everyone” is
all he had to say, but nothing else needs to
be said. Hynes worked hard and was dedicated to all the students that have ever walked
these halls or played on are fields and courts.
Mr. Hynes will be missed. R
