“ I was playing catch up from the start.” T he third and final Jack vs. Food experience was a little bit different than the past challenges. Instead of teaming up with someone to tackle a 14-pound pizza or trying to conquer a seven pound burrito, I was now competing against someone. The person that I would try to beat? Junior Bobby Roehrig, who I had teamed up with to try and eat the 14-pound pizza at Beau Jo’s. This challenge was our own creation, and one with a breakfast feel. We would go to Denny’s and each order the unlimited pancakes off the menu. Then, we would keep ordering plate after plate, seeing who could down the most pancakes. Another difference this time around is that we had a bit of an audience with us; we were joined by junior Logan Olin, junior Jesse Vanlandingham, and our photographer for The Review, junior Evan Gustafson. They watched us eat each bite, making the experience a better one, by joking around with us and cheering us on when we thought we couldn’t eat anymore. The way Denny’s serves your pancakes when you order the unlimited pancake option is they start you off with three pancakes. Once you’re finished with those, they start serving you two pancakes at a time. You can add whatever toppings you want for a $ .99 added charge. Bobby started himself off with three classic pancakes, nothing on them but a small amount of butter and syrup. I decided to go with stack of three chocolate chip pancakes which I soon decided was the wrong decision. The reason that this wasn’t a great idea was that I wanted to taste the chocolate so I didn’t put syrup on the pancakes. Without any syrup to make the pancakes moist, each bite just made my mouth drier and drier, which slowed me down quite a bit.
