St Columbas church ministers retirement Taken at the official opening of The Centre on 1st June 1973 any people in Stewarton will have fond memories of their times spent at “the Centre”. For many years the building has been the venue for sports activities, bring and buy sales, award ceremonies, discos, dancing and much more. Although the building was owned by the community, in those days it was staffed and maintained by whichever Council was in power at the time. In the present economic climate councils across the country are asking communities to take over the responsibility for their own assets and that is the case for our own Centre. We have a committee of volunteers who have taken over the role but there are not enough of us to share the load and take decisions on the future of the building. Although many of these activities still take place, the Centre is in need of modernisation and refurbishment if it is to continue as a focus for social events in Stewarton. If you would like to join the committee on this exciting journey and have a few hours to spare each month please come along and meet the group at the Centre, Standalane on the third Monday of each month. You will be made most welcome. NO BED OF ROSES Life is not a bed of roses For most of us that’s true There always seems to be a problem Whatever we may do At times when trials beset us And never seem to end How grand it is to know we have A loyal and helping friend W e may be passed Valentine’s Day, but I just want to send some red roses to thank everyone who has helped donate, sorted out, given out, received items from the FOOD BANK since last I wrote. The little poem above shows we could all be in the same boat if circumstances were different and we ALL need a friend to help us. We have received donations from children who did a reverse advantage calendar, putting IN a tin (Or something) when they got their chocolate OUT. Toys for local children, beautifully crocheted, fingerless gloves, gently knitted with love and all manner of items to add to give our clients to give them a special lift. THANK YOU ALL. On occasions our shelves look well stocked we do run out of items easily like UHT milk, coffee and tins of rice/custard, tins of macaroni/ Spaghetti bolognese/ravioli/hotdogs. We are most grateful for all donations, from individuals, doctors/nurses, dentists and shops. Thank you for thinking of others and for our volunteers thank you for your service. Any donations can go to John Knox Cottage, Cup and Saucer, St. Columba’s that will stay in Stewarton and the boxes in the Co-op and Sainsbury’s will be collected and taken to Darvel for distribution to the whole of East Ayrshire.
