lainshaw primary school
p7 girls fundraisers nail it!
A
t Lainshaw Primary School, we
are always incredibly proud of our
pupils. They routinely work hard and
demonstrate our school values of kindness,
respect and honesty. However, recently a
group of Primary 7 girls went above and
beyond showcasing an enterprising spirit
and an awareness of the importance of
supporting others.
With the school residential trip coming up in
the summer and understanding that it can be
quite expensive, the girls realised that carrying
out fundraising might help reduce the cost of
the trip and that this could be very important
for some families. They came up with an idea
to raise money and launched an in-school nail
bar called ‘Cutie-cools’.
Orla-Grace Carmichael Boyle and Ruby
James took the lead in organisation. They
advertised their project across the school
community, sent permission letters home
to parents and organised an army of nail-
painting staff from Primary 7 who would
work at playtimes and lunchtimes, painting
the nails of children across the school.
The group of Primary 7 children raised
£162.37 over the two weeks. But the girls
were not content at that. They didn’t want to
stop at just raising money for the residential
trip. They also wanted to extend their
fundraising to support a charity. The girls
selected Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity
as many families in the school had experience
of benefitting from their work and decided to
donate £100 of the money raised. Next, they
contacted local businesses and asked them
if they would like to contribute to the fund.
SOD-IT in Stewarton contributed £191,
Westway Coaches contributed £50 and Bling
in Stewarton contributed £30. In total, the
group of Primary 7 girls in collaboration with
the local businesses sent a cheque for £345 to
Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.
A representative from the Charity collected
the cheque and was so appreciative of the
work that girls had done, she has invited them
to visit the charity and see how the money
raised will benefit others.
