Girl Guides are back face to face !

The 1st Stewarton Friday night Girl Guides have continued to have their guide meetings every week throughout the Covid pandemic ; even during lockdown we ran virtual Guiding , but now we are glad to say WE ’ RE BACK FACE TO FACE .

We are back to meeting face to face in the Guide Hall every Friday night and it ’ s been amazing . Seeing all the girls and leaders back at Guide meetings , being able to talk face to face with them , take part in activities and just getting together to share our Guiding programme has been so beneficial for everyone involved . The girls have taken part in lots of Crafts they have made wild wax candles , table decorations , done Christmas crafts including baskets , made Christmas cards , snowmen , and gift boxes to name just a few crafts .
They have organised a Halloween evening , attended the St John ’ s Scotland CPR training , learned how to do CPR and use a defibrillator , learned how to use a compass , gained badges , got involved with environmental issues and learned how to make a positive impact on the environment by saving discarded objects from going into landfills by transforming them into new things . They upcycled old clothes and made them into bags and pencil cases , organised a Chinese New Year celebration and cooked their own Chinese food in their patrols , and took part in a Chinese activity .
This is just a small selection of things the girls have been involved with since September and we have lots more to come over the next few weeks and months .
Girlguiding gives girls a space where they can be themselves , have fun , build friendships , gain valuable life skills , and make a positive difference to their lives and communities , through our programme and activities . We give girls the opportunity to try new things , have adventures and discover their potential . We build girls ’ confidence and raise their aspirations . We give them the chance to discover their full potential and encourage them to be a powerful force for good . They take what they do in Guiding with them as they grow up .
If any girls are interested in joining the Friday night Guides or want some more information , please feel free to contact me Doreen Sharp Guide Guider on 07903203168 . Guides are aged 10 years to 16 years old .
We also have Rainbows and Brownies for the younger girls . If anyone would be interested in becoming a leader or helper at any of the units again , please feel free to get in touch with me at the same contact number as above .

News Update 1st Stewarton Boys ’ Brigade

The last few months has seen us lucky enough to add more items to the programme which has been good for the boys to get back to a fuller programme , which is what they are used to . We can ’ t do a full programme but gradually we are starting to get there .

At Christmas our Anchors and Juniors enjoyed a traditional Christmas Party before we finished up for the break . The Company and Seniors had a night at OVEN , which was enjoyed by boys and staff alike .
We were also pleased that although there were increasing COVID pressures , we still managed to deliver Christmas Cards to the community – A service we started in 1983 and until COVID had not missed any in that time .
Our Anchors joined Companies from rest of the East Ayrshire Battalion to attend a morning at the Play Parks at Dumfries House . Our Juniors also attended a Battalion event and enjoyed a trip to Eglinton Park for a Treasure Hunt and afternoon in the play park to finish . The Company & Seniors event will be at the end of the month will be to Paint Balling at the Scottish Assault Course in Galston .
We are looking forward to the last few months of the session and hopefully giving the boys a more familiar BB experience and memories .

20th ayrshire stewarton scout group - we need your help !

URGENT ! Leaders / Volunteers urgently wanted for our Scout Group which has been in Stewarton since 1910 . We provide activities for Beavers aged 6 to 8 years on Mondays and Wednesdays , Cubs aged 8 to 10 and a half on a Thursday , Scouts aged 10 and a half to 14 on a Friday and Explorer Scouts aged 14 to 18 on a Monday after Beavers .

Recently we have had to close a Cub Pack because of lack of Leaders / helpers but all sections require Leaders so if you can spare some of your time to keep our Group going , we would be extremely grateful . Our Scout Group is one of the largest in the Ayrshire East District with over 100 youngsters but if we don ' t get help or support from our community we may have to close . All new Leaders / helpers will be given training . I have been with the Group for 35 years and would be devastated if it had to close .
If you can help , please contact either myself on 07791 651906 or Suzanne Clark on 07455 003377 . Thank you . ( Annette Waddington Assistant Beaver Leader and Committee member ).
