Here ' s a real page turner from The Book Nook !

The top news for this article has to be the huge excitement that The Book Nook Stewarton has been selected as a Finalist in The British Book Awards , in the category of Independent Bookshop of the Year !

The Junior Book Nook Club motivates and rewards well over a hundred children who are members and achieve their bronze , silver , gold Awards and this has been so successful that there is now a Platinum level . I am delighted that Dunlop Primary School were so impressed with the initiative that they have adopted it with the school and have their own branded set of reading logs and certificates . very popular mulled wine !) and then into the excitement and busyness of December . Top selling books for Christmas included Billy Connolly ’ s latest autobiography ‘ Windswept and Interest-ing ’, Richard Osman ’ s second outing of The Thursday Murder Club in ‘ The Man who Died Twice ’, ‘ Still Life ’ by Sarah Winman which transported us all to Florence with a quirky cast of characters , and the beautifully written ‘ Small Pleasures ’ by Clare Chambers . We sold loads of Book Nook gift vouchers so do pop in to redeem those if you haven ’ t already .
Book Nook owner ‘ Sarah Frame ’ is absolutely thrilled and says ‘ I almost didn ’ t even enter these prestigious awards , so it means so much to have made it to the finals ! This success would not have been possible without the fantastic local support for The Book Nook and the enthusiasm of the community for having a local independent bookshop .’
The Book Nook has continued to offer various events for booklovers of all ages . Unbelievably it was the shop ’ s first birthday in December , which was celebrated with a party at The Vennel , with music , quizzes and fun .
The BookNookers book club is attracting new members every month and the monthly meetings are a much-enjoyed social event as well as an opportunity to read and chat about a wide range of books . New members always welcome !
We welcomed the local actor , Jordan Cramond , who starred in the film version of David Walliam ’ s book ‘ The Midnight Gang ’. Jordan read excerpts from the book and answered questions about being an actor to the fascinated
group of children attending . Jordan will be back soon to run a drama workshop with us , so look out for an announcement about that .

The children ’ s illustrations Christmas competition ‘ The Night I became Santa ’ was won by Harrison Black . For Children ’ s Mental Health Week , we offered a ‘ Feelings that are Funny ’ workshop with local author and illustrator Petra Baillie and there will be more children ’ s workshops taking place in the coming months .
The Book Nook stocked up with all the World Book Day books and helped supply local schools with these . Independent bookshops do not receive any money for these , but The Book Nook was happy to bear the costs , so that every child gets the opportunity to enjoy a book of their own .
There is a very exciting author event on March 20th with the very well-known and popular Scottish crime writer Craig Robertson giving a talk and signing copies of his latest book ’ The Undiscovered Deaths of Grace McGill ’. Craig has a string of bestsellers to his name , all set in Glasgow . Craig had 20 years ’ experience as a Sunday newspaper journalist and his experiences interviewing Prime Ministers and reporting on some of the biggest stories . His books have been listed for CWA New Blood Dagger , Theakston ’ s Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year 2017 and the McIlvanney Prize 2017 . Liam Doyle Music will also once again be providing music at the event which everyone always enjoys . This will be a great evening at our favourite local venue The Vennel .
