It ’ s going to be a blooming busy year down at Stewarton allotments .

Planning has already started , to celebrate the tenth birthday of Stewarton Community Allotments Society and there are some great events lined up .

It was in April 2012 that the first spade went into the ground at the site on the Irvine Road , on the outskirts of the town . Since then membership has grown , the number of plots has increased and tons of fresh fruit and vegetables have been produced .
Last year ’ s event was hugely popular , after missing out in 2020 because of Covid . It ’ s hoped that this year ’ s birthday celebrations , on August 13 , will be bigger and better than ever . Make sure the date is in your diary .
As well as the open day , SCAS are planning other events , including an afternoon tea party for members in April . At the end of the year the society hopes to light up the dark nights with a spectacular display of brightly lit pumpkins .
All these events are on top of the digging , planting , weeding and harvesting that make up the gardener ’ s year
The society held its annual meeting in November and the following committee was elected : chairman , Brian Slaughter ; vice chairman , Gary Treanor , secretary , Frances Wolstencroft ; treasurer , Liz Leyden ; other members are Billy Neilson , Natasha MacSkimming and Steve Wolstencroft .
The allotments have become part of the fabric of Stewarton . One of the high points of the town ’ s social calendar is the annual allotments open day .
There is a waiting list for plots . If you wish to join the list please email the secretary at scassecretary @ gmail . com . Please note that membership of the society is restricted to residents of Stewarton .
