Stewarton Torchlight Parade is a sparkling success !
Asoft , magical glow gently made its way through Stewarton on Saturday 26th February with the return of the spectacular Torchlight Procession , Bonfire and Fireworks display . Returning after a two year absence , the local community were out in full force to take part in the procession and enjoy the traditional bonfire and impressive fireworks display in Lainshaw Woods .
Organised by the Bonnet Guild , the event was another huge success , with an estimated 2,000 + residents turning out . The procession was led by the fantastic Kilbarchan Pipe Band and the two most recent Corsehill Queens ( from 2021 and 2020 ) Freya McInnes and Katie Paterson ; both supported by members of their respective Courts . Local residents Mr and Mrs Marshall ( who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year ) were also invited to the head of the parade and pushed the big red button in the woods to get the fireworks started !
President of Stewarton Bonnet Guild , Hugh Gillies commented : “ We were delighted to be able to proceed with our long awaited Torchlight Procession , Bonfire and Fireworks once again this year . Having been unable to stage this much-anticipated event in 2021 or 2020 due to the pandemic , it was great to welcome its return . The support , response and appreciation from the local community has been truly heart-warming
and I ' d like to take this opportunity to thank all our Bonnet Guild members , numerous volunteers and all support organisations , for the time , effort and expertise they gave ensuring a safe and successful event . Suffice to say , community spirit is alive and well in Stewarton !”
