Stewarton & District Historical Society

The Historical Society was founded over 40 years ago to locate , acquire & record details of the history of Stewarton and the surrounding district . To promote interest in local history , a season of Monthly Talks is held from September – May , on the first Monday of the month , on a range of topics . The Talks are being held virtually at the moment , with Speakers telling us about “ Stained glass windows in Ayrshire buildings ”, “ The other Robert Burns ”, “ The Ulster Scots ” & “ Dunlop & Dunlop Cheese ”. Still to come in April are “ Robert W . Service – Bard of the Yukon ” & “ The history of Lace ” in May .
Anyone interested in local history can join and visitors are also welcome at the Talks . For more information , email stewartonhistoricalsociety @ hotmail . com
The Society has a small museum in the Town House in Avenue Square , run by a group of volunteers . Although it had to close at the start of the pandemic , it will re-open when safe to do so . It holds a large number of historical records relating to Stewarton & district such as census returns , old school registers , maps & photographs & is a great source of information for folk with Stewarton roots or those new to the town & interested in its history , & the Society is happy to help with genealogy enquiries from home or abroad .
The Society also have a website to browse through , with interesting photos & articles – check it out at www . stewartonhistoricalsociety . org
The Historical Society looks forward to welcoming people back to Talks & meetings in person & opening the museum to the public again when safe to do so .

Lainshaw Lions ... Update

Lainshaw Lions has had a quiet start to this year . We are following all

government guidelines and keeping our children safe .
Staying safe and staying open for those who are eligible to attend has been a priority . Up to now from January we have only been allowed to care for key worker families and vulnerable children . We have opened every day for those families and its thanks to our dedicated staff , who have gone above and beyond . Our staff team includes Rachel McIntyre , Margaret Campbell , Kelly Murray who make up our management team . Our other staff are : Jennifer Cooke , Donna Scott , Eilidh MacDonald , Shannon Carroll and Cameron Martin . This team of dedicated workers have been working on trainings every month , the latest training is for outdoors . Thank you to Lesley Wilson who arranged a very well organised first aid training course . Lesley is a childminder and included our staff in this training , it is always good to work together . If all school age children are back at school on 15th March then we are allowed to fully open . We have missed all our families and look forward to welcoming all families back .
