We meet at the Academy for our main night on a Friday and also have a badminton/board games club night at the Church Hall on Sunday evening. On top of our weekly programme our usual programme includes Scotland matches, swimming, Glasgow Rocks games and this is an area where we are trying to expand the variety for the boys. Our boys also get the opportunity to take part in National competitions which can mean a home tie in Stewarton or away ties in venues which have included Newtonhill, Forfar, Dundee, Perth, Glasgow, Greenock and Dunblane. Nationals events are chess, 5-A-side, badminton, table tennis and Masterteam (which is a general knowledge quiz). This year although we never progressed into the final stages this year, we were still reasonably advanced and still in the competitions for 5-A-Side, badminton, table tennis and chess after the Christmas break. We also take an active part in Battalion events. East Ayrshire Battalion includes 14 companies in total around the East Ayrshire area. So far we have taken part in a dominoes competition, swimming gala, athletics, general knowledge quiz, stain glass window competition (Moses), Alton Towers visit and a visit to the dry ski slope at Bellahoustoun. We have still to take part in Cross Country, drill and 5-A-Side. Each year our boys pick a charity to donate their “tuck change”, so rather nge to Senior Challe per Aeroplane fly a 5 foot pa than spend all their money at the tuck shop they put the change. We recently donated £200 to the Ayrshire Hospice. This year they have selected Help for Heroes – aiming for a similar figure. We have also rolled out the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Programme to the Senior boys with 4 boys recently receiving their Silver Duke of Edinburgh from the Lord Lieutenant of Ayrshire Mr John Duncan. On March 15th the Battalion Parade will be hosted in Stewarton with St. Columba’s and John Knox Church both attending along with boys and officers from East Ayrshire Battalion. We will be marching from the Academy, so listen for the band and support the Company in an event which only takes place in the town once every 10 years. During the service we are also retiring our old Colours and dedicating the new Colours. These Colours we estimate have been in use from late 1950’s/early 1960’s. It will be a great occasion and we are also going to try and get any interested ex-members to attend the Church that morning to see the retiral of Colours that have served the Company well over last 50 plus years. We must also thank Janet Marshall who retired from the Company for the very kind donation of which partly finances the new colours. for Presentation night Visit to the dr y ski h Awards Duke of Edinburg oun slope at Bellahoust Agent H picks up the Ayrshire Hosp ean lSLATE C Spring Cleaning, Hoovering, clean windows, bathrooms, kitchens, fridges, cookers, floors, carpets.
