Three experienced Ayrshire drama groups
from Kilwinning, Dunlop and Stewarton
will be treading the boards at next month’s
Ayrshire round of the Scottish Community
Drama Association’s One Act Play Festival.
McGavin Drama Club’s production of ‘Profound
Moments’ by Johnny Grim, The Dunlop Players
production of ‘Last Respects’ by Colin Calvert,
and Stewarton Drama Group’s production of
‘Waste Management’ by Nancy McPherson
have all been entered into the annual national
competition for talented thespians across
Scotland.
The exciting theatrical festival will be staged in
Kilmarnock’s Palace Theatre and will start and
finish on the same night - Thursday 20th February,
with curtain up at 7.00pm. During the evening,
each of the competing teams will perform a short
play of their choice of approximately 40 minutes
in length, all of which will be judged in public at
the end of each evening by a professional drama
adjudicator, Brian Marjoribanks. The audience
will hear the adjudicator’s comments on the
various categories that marks are awarded for
including acting, production, stage presentation
and general achievement.
At the conclusion of the evening’s entertainment,
awards for Best Acting, Best Stage Presentation
The cast of McGavin Drama Club’s production of ‘Profound Moments’
and Best Stage Lighting will be presented to the
most deserving teams, as well as the trophies for
first, second and third place overall.
Nerves will be running high for all those
participating, because the team placed first on the
night will have the honour of going forward to
represent Ayrshire at the West of Scotland Final
of the competition in The Fullarton (formerly
known as Lochside Theatre) in Castle Douglas
at the end of March. There they will have the
opportunity to compete for a much sought after
place at the prestigious National Final of the
competition in the East Kilbride Village Theatre
at the end of April. The team ultimately crowned
Scottish champions will go on to represent
Scotland at the British Final of the competition
which will be held in Stirling later in the summer.
