1st Stewarton Boys’ Brigade
Our Anchor Section have steady numbers of
about 30 which is a good number to allow us
to carry out of our programme of activities.
At Christmas the Anchors again attended the
local Pantomime and the boys had a great time!
Recently the Anchor Boys attended an event
with other boys from East Ayrshire Battalion
in Mauchline where they were entertained
by an entertainer called Uncle Billy. The boys
had a great time and it was good to get the
opportunity to mix with boys from other East
Ayrshire Companies.
Our Junior Section have numbers of about 20.
At Christmas as well as their Christmas party
we attended the Pantomime at the Gaiety
Theatre in Ayr. It was our first outing to that
theatre and the boys (just like the Anchors)
had a great time. The Juniors recently took
part in a General Knowledge quiz with boys
from our Battalion. These events are very well
run and the boys enjoy the event but also gain
an insight into the wider work of the Boys’
Brigade by meeting boys and staff from some of
the other 13 Companies in our Battalion area.
After the success of the weekend stay last year,
the boys are looking forward to our weekend to
Troon at the end of April.
The Company/Senior Section numbers have
settled just under 40. Our recent highlights
include their Christmas outing to the
Laserquest in Clydebank where both officers
and boys get a good opportunity to have a
bit of well-earned fun after the madness of
Christmas! Stewarton hosted an event for
about 70 boys from East Ayrshire Battalion
including 16 from Stewarton. The boys had
a choice of snowboard or ski for a 1 hour
instruction and 1 hour free time on the dry ski
slope at Bellahouston in Glasgow. The Senior
boys will be attending an overnight stay which
is part of their Discovery badgework where
after the Section on the Friday night, we have
a night of supper, films, challenges, games etc.
– a really good event which see them usually
collapse asleep at about 5 in the morning! Our
Annual weekend Adventure camp has been
arranged for end of August to an Abernethy
Trust run Centre - Barcaple in Castle Douglas.
Just a final word of thanks to the Church and
Community. We get great support particularly
at events like the Christmas Card deliveries
which was a great success with a high volume
of cards collected and delivered over a busy
weekend in December.
