Stewarton & District Historical Society Latest news and events

Stewarton & District Historical Society began the 2021-2022 season of Talks in September , with Ayrshire author Dane Love taking a “ Look back at Old Irvine ”. In October we heard about “ Robert the Bruce and his Ayrshire Connections ”, given by Mr . Tom Barclay , Historian from Carnegie Library in Ayr . The Talk on the 1st of November will be held in John Knox church hall , the first since March 2020 ! The topic “ The Restoration of Lamlash House ” in Newmilns .

December 2021 , January and February 2022 , see Mr . Frank Beattie , Mr . Robert Watt and Mr . Davie McKie respectively , speaking to the Historical Society . All Welcome - Visitors £ 3.00 .
We took part in the Stewarton Initiatives event in the Area Centre in October and were pleased at the amount of interest in the Society . Unfortunately our Museum remains closed to the public at the moment due to social distancing not being possible .
Did you know there was once a botanical brewery in Stewarton ? It was owned by a Mr . Harry Whiteley , who is listed in the census of 1911 living in Dean Street . The flagon pictured was handed to the Historical Society recently . If anyone knows anything of the Brewery or Mr . Whiteley , we would love to hear from you .
