Stewarton means ... trees trees trees !
We ’ re going to be planting trees in Stewarton : small trees and tall trees . Amongst others , willows , oaks , hazels and birches will one day spring up in green corners where you walk . We want more native trees to grace our town ’ s skyline - for many years to come . Our hope is that such trees will not only buzz with insects and birds but will absorb CO2 . Our poor old planet is suffering and we at SWAT want to do our bit .
Our plan is still in its infancy . We ’ ve bounced some ideas about , and have now pieced together the rudiments of a plan . It will take us a while since planting trees is neither simple nor straightforward . The right tree needs to go in the right place .
If you ’ re interested and would like to join us in the growing , planting or maintaining of trees , please let us know . If you have land you ’ d like trees to be planted on , please let us know too . If you ’ re in an organisation which is keen to do something to address the climate emergency , please let us know . Together we might stand a chance .
On a more immediate note , our fundraising continues , so please help by buying the SWAT 2022 calendar , copies of which are available from Warwick ’ s Best Wishes , Ellie ’ s Kidswear , Book Bell & Candle , all in Stewarton ’ s Main St . Alternatively , you can order a copy through our Facebook page , and if you live locally it can be delivered to your door at no extra cost . Calendars are £ 5 .
