I n its 2nd year, the Volleyball of Nations (VON) joined native tribes together, both avid and just-forfun volleyball players, from all over the United States. The RESource wants to recognize the championship teams. Held on Saturday, April 26, 2014, during the Gathering of Nations, Volleyball of Nations is quickly becoming a favorite within the Albuquerque area. Champion Team Captain, Candice Costello, commented that she likes the tournament because of the positive vibes from fellow teams and coordinators. This is the only volleyball tournament held during the Gathering of Nations powwow. Our 2014 VON Champions were a 5-man team with players from Tohajiilee and Gallup, New Mexico. Team mates included: Candice Costello, Rachele Thompson, Kerri Harrison, Stanley Chapo and Isiah Bradford. With deadly spikes and awe inspiring dives, it was apparent that this team lives in the sandbox and it deemed highly appropriate for our Champion’s team to call themselves “Have Some.” We’re definitely looking forward to ‘Having Some’ more again next year. This years runner-up team was suitably called the “Badger Crew”, as badgers are known for digging, these Badgers took each game to dig their setts and with tenacity continued to come out on top, quietly beating out the The Walking Dead team. The Badger Crew from Naschitti, New Mexico included: Valencia Largie, Blaine Eriacho, LeAnder Largie, Karalynn Largie, David Scott, Annie Harrison and LeAnn Largie. We appreciate the good sportsmanship from The Badger crew and we look forward to seeing them next year. The RESource invites you to attend the 2015 Volleyball of Nations tournament, and yes the players and spectators will end up with sand in their ears, their eyes and their hair, but there is no better way to make new friends all while getting in a good body workout. Both players and spectators alike enjoyed all that the day had to offer - great food, drinks, and friendly competition. need ad space? call (928) 871-1181 or email [email protected] may Volume 1 Issue 005 17
