better than everybody else. I
believe you just have to be better than you ever thought you
could be.”
In 2011, Rogers’ dream
became reality as he made his
first WNFR appearance.

Through the sacrifice of leaving
his family, being on the road
traveling from one rodeo to the
next, winning or losing, he persevered and in that moment, it
all paid off.
Thousands of Navajos
proudly gathered in that Thomas and Mack Center to cheer on
our new hero.
Since 2011, he has
competed in the WNFR for
three consecutive years and
this season will be his fourth.
Although making it to
the WNFR each year is a goal
for Rogers, he aspires much
more for himself. “As a Navajo, I hope the Navajo people
will remember me, I want to be
well-known to make a name for
myself.” He said.
Because there was not
many Native Americans out
there in team roping to idolize,
Rogers knows that now he has
the chance to give back to the
kids here on the Navajo Nation
and show them that they are
capable and can do it they just
have to have the will to try and
to set their goals high. Not having a Navajo pro rodeo team
roper only encouraged Rogers
to persevere and keep trying.
Rogers is hopeful of one day
giving back to the Navajo Nation.
“Everybody in the Indian rodeo world liked Jake and
Clay, they were everyones main
heroes when I was growing up,
they were the ones I watched
and wanted to be like.” Rogers
stated, referring to the 7-time
World Champion legendary
team ropers Jake Barnes and
Clay O’Brien Cooper.
When Rogers comes
home to the reservation, he
lights up the face of our Navajo
children, who noticed him and
ask to get an autograph or photo.
Rogers takes pleasure
in being recognized by his biggest fans – the people of the
Navajo Nation, they are his inspiration to cowboy up and win.
Rogers will be back on the Navajo Nation to compete in the
PRCA Pro Rodeo scheduled
for the Fourth of July PRCA
ProRodeo at the Dean C. Jackson Memorial Arena in Window
Rock (July 3rd to July 5th). The
Navajo Nation values Rogers
and he is certainly championed
here on the reservation. We
want to wish our cowboy a safe
and successful rodeo season.
