LIFE ON THE OTHER SIDE…
What an interesting time of life
after completing 31 years of high
school teaching. Everyone has
different experiences after
retirement. Some are lost without
what they love and know best,
taking them right back into some
kind of full time teaching, or
worse, wishing they were back.
Many find that they are busier
than ever as they get out and do a
variety of things for themselves
and for others who take the
opportunity to invite the recent
retiree to work, volunteer, and
play. Others enjoy a more relaxed
time of travel, golf, volunteer
work, while staying active in
directing or singing in church
choir.
I am not sure what I was
expecting life to be “on the other
side”, but so far it has been a
satisfying and uplifting time for
me in many ways.
All summer
long people asked, “how is
retirement”?
Well, it felt like
summer time, because it was! For
me, “retirement” did not begin
until early August when the
teachers were back for the
beginning of the year meetings
(truly the bane of my existence)
and I found myself, at 9:00am, at
a favorite locale; Lowe's Home
Improvement Center. I had
arrived. I was free. I was…retired.
