What led you to homeschool your children ?
I was homeschooled because of our traveling lifestyle , and it worked out super well . My kids travel as I did , so homeschooling became necessary . Another reason I homeschool is to have full access to everything my kids are being taught because I ’ m the one teaching it . It doesn ’ t get much better than that .
What does a typical homeschool day look like for your family ?
On the days we are home , we typically start school around 10:30 am . I know that seems late , but some of the perks of homeschooling are being able to set your own hours and go at your own pace . We begin with prayer and a Bible lesson , which we discuss together . Then we head into our other subjects . We are usually done around 1:30 pm . This schedule gives me time to get things done before and after school .
What resources have you found helpful for homeschooling ?
I enjoy following other homeschooling moms on social media , and I glean many tips and tricks from their different styles . My favorite is Sarah from The Modern Farmhouse on Instagram . What helps me the most is the 30 minutes I get with Jesus in the morning before the kids get up . I ask Him for wisdom to get through another day of teaching my kiddos , and He never fails me !
What do you love most about homeschooling ?
I love the flexibility and one-on-one time . I also love seeing my kids ’ confidence grow as they work on their skills and learn to do something new .
What are your biggest challenges in homeschooling your children ?
My biggest challenge has been battling the feeling that if my kids don ’ t learn everything they need to know , it ’ s my fault . When I feel this way , I just do my best and surrender the rest to Jesus .
What advice do you have for anyone who is considering homeschooling ?
Homeschooling is a blessing you can ’ t put a price tag on . You will find that when the day is done , you are closer to your kids , you can rejoice in the little daily victories together , and you can see firsthand when the material you have been trying to teach finally clicks and makes sense to them . It ’ s so rewarding ! I highly recommend it . ■ future homeschooler learning on the road
