HUMC Among First Hospitals in the World to Offer Da Vinci 5 Multiport Robotic Surgical System

HackensackUniversityMedical Center was selected to be one of only 14centers inthe world , and the only inNew Jersey , New York and Connecticut , to acquire the Intuitive Surgical da Vinci 5multiport surgical system . With more than 10,000 times the computing power and the first-of-its-kind force-sensing technology , the da Vinci 5 is the most advanced surgical technology available .

TheHackensackUniversityMedical Center team performedthe firstprocedures ever using the new system totreat fourpatientsonApril 1 .
DaVinci 5buildson Intuitive ’ sdaVinci Xi ’ s highly functional design , which surgeons and care teams around the world have used in morethan7million procedures to date .
Thesystemincludesmorethan150 enhancements , including :
■ Enhanced precision and control . Da Vinci 5 ’ s designand engineering enhancements , including newsurgeon controllers andpowerful vibration and tremor controls , helping surgeons maintain comfort during long procedures andpotentially reduce fatigue .
■ Next-generation 3Ddisplay and image processing . Da Vinci5is equipped with Intuitive ’ shighest quality and most natural3Dimaging system , enablingsurgeons toseemoretoday , and supportingfuture generationsofsurgicalendoscopes and vision software .
■ First-of-its-kind force-sensing technology . Da Vinci5introduces ForceFeedback technology andoptionalinstrumentsthat enable thesystemtomeasure , andsurgeons tofeel , subtle forces exerted ontis- sue during surgery — something noother surgical technology in anymodality offers . In preclinicaltrials , ForceFeedback demonstratedupto43percent lessforce exerted ontissue , which may translateto lesstraumaon tissue .
■ Streamlined workflow : Da Vinci5 hasinnovative features designed tohelp
increase surgeon autonomy and streamline surgeonand careteamworkflow . For example , da Vinci5has integrated keyOR technologies , includinginsufflation and an electrosurgical unit .
Together , theseinnovations will continue to streamline workflow in theORand potentiallysavevaluable time , without compromising patientsafety .
■ Expanded computing power and advanced data capabilities . Da Vinci5has more than 10,000 times the computing power of da VinciXi . Thisenables advanced digitalexperiences , now and inthefuture , includingintegration withIntuitive ’ sMy Intuitiveapp , SimNow ( virtual reality simulator ), CaseInsights ( computational observer ), andIntuitive Hub ( edge computingsystem ). “ ThedaVinci 5will allowustotake
