Holiday décor
with staying power
And, so we highlighted cherished
memories to transform the space with
merry and meaningful design. Here’s
how we did it and you can too:
Design the theme: The most im-
portant part of good design is creat-
ing a connection with meaning. After
reviewing my client’s seasonal family
treasures, we found a personal link
with the evergreen tree, or as my
client’s mother calls it, Tannenbaum.
Symbolic of longevity and everlasting
life, the evergreen tree theme repre-
sents the spirit of the season. We gath-
ered childhood tinsel trees as a start-
ing point and expanded from there.
Mix it up: Brevity makes the festive
holiday season the perfect oppor-
tunity to experiment with personal
style and color for just a few months.
Consider new furniture arrange-
ments to accommodate a Christmas
tree, decorations and guests. To cre-

The neutral white and grays of the entry hall and dark walnut floors take
on holiday cheer with a graceful evergreen garland festooned above the arch-
way. The bottom of the stair railing is decorated with a coordinating swag
of evergreen as well, topped with a linen bow.

The
Challenge:
Create holiday Julie Liepold
style to last throughout the winter
season.
The Solution:
The solution was to transform
the space with festive and memo-
rable design that connects family and
guests over multiple holidays spanning
the winter season, as per my client’s
request. They asked for me to deco-
rate their home with enduring holiday
style to last December through March.
The designer brought the neutral living room into the holidays full swing and brought
continuity from the entry hall with this mantel adorned with the same type of garland, only
this time enhanced with twinkle lights and vintage mercury glass pinecones. The Kim
Seybert stockings embroidered with silver metallic foliage echo the colorful garland without
distracting from it.
ate your holiday color scheme with
longevity, select one color already
existing in your home, then add a gold
or silver or another metallic, and a
coordinating pop of bright color that
makes you merry, a berry red in my
clients’ case.
Wow on arrival: Make lasting first
impressions with garlands of ever-
green and magnolias adorning your
entrance hall. Deck the halls with pine
sprigs, wintery branches, pinecones
and holly berries from your garden.
Incorporating natural elements adds
an overflowing sense of joy that can
easily be replenished as needed.
Show off your mantel: A normally
neutral living room can be elevated
by a mantel decorated with a bold
assemblage of opulent ornaments,
glittering gold bows and embellished
stockings. Twinkle lights and flickering
candles with festive fragrances add
the perfect combination of seasonal
shimmer and sparkle.
Holiday décor with staying power is
just a few steps away with these tips.
