Colossal squid

Although there is actually another one called“ The Giant Squid”, the colossal squid is actually much bigger, In fact it’ s the biggest invertebrate known to science, and with a body that big, come eyes tremendously huge with a diameter reaching up to 30 cm across and that’ s just the immature young squid, it’ s even much bigger with the older adult ones. The squid normally hunts down its food at a depth of 2000 metres deep in the water, which is somewhere completely dark, and those huge eyes just allows it to get a better vision at such dim conditions, but that’ s not the only help it gets; what’ s really cool about this one is that it has an actual flashlight inside its eyes. The colossal squid has an organ inside its huge eyes called the“ photophore”, this organ produces an amount of light from the squid’ s eyes to work just like a headlight for the hunting. Although its normal vision is stereotype but with those huge eyes and those cool headlights, the colossal squid earns a spot on our cool list.

The spookfish

Not the prettiest I have to admit, but you can’ t get a name like that being pretty, the spookfish is pretty spooky, with four weird eyes and a body as pale as a ghost. it’ s not exactly the prettiest scene underwater, you might even pass by it without noticing, hence; the description“ ghost”. But as we all know and as we all try to teach our kids, everyone is special, and that saying goes for the fish as well, even the spooky unpopular ones. The spookfish doesn’ t have normal eyes like us humans or even like most animals and fish, they actually have mirrors.

With four eyes lacking any lens or even any structure remotely close to it, they have curved composite mirrors that reflect all the images around into their brains, they can even see up and down at the same time. You know that terrible room in the circus with all those mirrors that always end up being part of a lame movie chase or a self-analyzing scene, well yes we can say the spookfish lives in that scene all its life.
