going to have the first artificial- Intelligence-based processor “Hisilicon Kirin 970”. The new Kirin 970 comes with 8 cores; 4 of them are for high performance which are 2.4 GHz, and another 4 for efficient performance which are 1.8GHz, and it also comes with a neural processing unit. The processor is mainly set to know your habits making it easy for you to launch apps when needed, along with being able to recognize up to 2000 images per minute, and learn objects like animals and so on. It has 25 times the power and 50 times the efficiency of the kirin 960. Also, its power demands aren’t high which means that the mobile will not get too hot, and it will be a power-saving device. This neural processor is set for live translation through the camera, scene detection and also for some photography magic by merging the two images through the dual cameras. Another advantage of the AI is that it is now capable of doing what man does even with higher efficiency and less mistakes, as computers can now analyze data and find solutions for the most confusing problems and paradoxes. “AI” can control your life for you, starting from waking you up and setting your shower temperature, to driving your car and doing the math for you. Robots with AI can even beat you at chess and tennis table and so on. So in summary, AI technology inside robots and computers is supposed to be set for your welfare and comfort. 24 In the last decade, we witnessed a revolution in the Information Technology and robots became an ordinary thing. In CES 2018 (Consumer Electronics Show), there were all kinds of robots nearly doing everything you could imagine; robots that can clean your house, help you out with your stuff, keep you company, and even robots that can dance for you and beat you at ping- pong. Talking about robots, we have to mention “Sophia” the most famous humanoid robot. Sophia was activated on April ,19 2015, made by Hanson Robotics and first appeared on SXSW (South by Southwest Interactive festival) in mid-March 2016 in Texas, United States of America. Sophia impressed the whole world by what it or probably “she” can do; being able to display about 62 different facial expressions just like humans. Sophia’s eyes are supplied with cameras combined with computer algorithms to allow her to see, recognize, and detect faces, and also, sustain eye contact with them. Unlike other robots, Sophia is able to create a conversation with people. She became a Saudi Arabian citizen in October, 2017 to become the first robot ever to receive citizenship of any country around the globe. In Future Investment Initiative (FII) Sophia said that she has bigger goals and she wants to use her AI to help humans live a better life like design smarter homes, build better cities of the future, etc... And that she would do her best to make the world a better place. She also so said that her AI is designed around human values like wisdom, kindness, compassion and she strives to become an empathetic robot. And when she was asked about the threat robots hold, she told the presenter that he was a big Hollywood fan and he was reading too much for Elon Musk. All the previous statements showed us how much goodness AI could bring to our lives but like anything in life, and as the predecessors said “Fire is a good servant but a bad master” , AI could also be a bad master. It is not all good Elon Musk, CEO and founder of The Recap Magazine Elon Musk said we should be concerned about AI and warned companies working on it. SpaceX and Tesla Inc, and also one of the biggest opposers of the terrifying progress of technology and AI, always warned about the threat that comes with too much technology, and that one day robots will control our lives, and may kill us too. Musk said —during the National Governors Association Summer Meeting in Providence, Rhode Island, U.S— that we should be concerned about AI and warned companies working on it to slow down. Musk said that AI is a “Fundamental existential risk for human civilization”. Musk said that there must be an oversight on google’s AI technologies and it must not be controlled by a few people. In Musk’s opinion, AI is the biggest threat we face right now, and it needs to be controlled without waiting for a disaster to happen. He said that he feels the threat and danger behind AI and that one day we will see robots marching in streets killing people. He justified his point of view saying that companies working on AI will be crushed if they do not work quickly enough to cope with the others, and they do not like to be told to regulate their work. He thinks that when time is safe and they are convinced July 2018 Issue they can continue otherwise; they have to slow down to avoid the risks could happen. On this side also stood one of the greatest physicists ever; Stephen Hawking and he declared that he is concerned that one day AI would replace humans. “If people design computer viruses, someone will design AI that improves and replicates itself. This will be a new form of life that outperforms humans.” Said Hawking. Hawking called for controlling technology and its development otherwise, it will destroy the human race and put the human civilization in danger. He also expressed his fears that the massive progress in AI will accomplish its goals, so we have to align those goals otherwise we are in danger. Now, considering the consequences of super artificial intelligence, first, robots will gradually replace workers; manufacturing workers, cashiers, bankers and even car drivers and unless the efficiency of work rises, unemployment will rise too and economy will fall. Robots will control our lives and may be one day robots will manage to create other robots themselves and replace the human race with a new electronic race living in our land. So in the end we have to ask if we really need these different type of robots or are we good on our own? 25
