Packaging Poultry Products
Over the 21st Century an increasing proportion of products have become pre-packaged. This
reflects the benefits of packaging in expressing brand identities in a more affluent and sophisticated
market.
The packaging component of a product is defined as:
An important brand element with more tangible or physical benefits than the other brand
elements
The wrapping, crafting, filling or compressing of goods with an aim of protecting them from
contamination and at the same time simplifying their handling, transportation, storage anduse.
Packaging has the practical task of protecting the product in distribution and in use, but in real
sense it actually defines the product.
Packaging determines the quantity in which a product is sold (e.g. 30 eggs per tray)
It determines the method of usage.
It certainly expresses image and identify.
Many firms use packaging that is expensive and complex because it increases customer valuation of
the product more than it increases the price.
