THE BEGINNING OF A GREAT LIFE The amazing life of Dewey Stokes Sr. started on September 8, 1911 in Arkansas. His parents were Judge Sonia Stokes and Maggie Mae. He was born a twin with three other siblings. His twin’s name was Louie and together they were great troublemakers. After his mother died, his father married Jettie Mae Teagues, who already had three children of her own. Then she and Judge had fourteen more children. That’s a total of 21 siblings! For fun Grandpa would go out frog catching at night. His buddies/brothers and he would use only the light of a flashlight to see the eyes of the big frogs. They would grab them right behind the eyes. They would often confuse the frogs with copperhead snakes. This caused Grandpa to have a great fear of frogs, not snakes though. He would also go catfish fishing. They would stick their hands into the hole and pull the fish out. Grandpa and Louie would get into LOTS of trouble.
