PROFILE When it comes to sex, guys are different from our fairer counterparts. I’m sure most of you remember hearing the stories from those “play-boys” from as young as 13 years old. There was always one guy in class or one cousin or one friend who seemed to have abundant experience with the ladies, the guy who had done it all. Yep that pretty much sums it up really, at least for most young men. From the time the first hairs appear in strange places, our voices start breaking and girls start looking…different, we know exactly what the birds and the bees are all about. When those first urges rear their head all guys know exactly what they want to do but for the most part we have no idea how to go about doing it. I’ve talked to many of my friends, all young men, about their first times with a girl and they all tell tales similar to the introduction. Confusion, nerves, stress and a surprisingly quick finish are the most common themes, all of which are doubled if the girl is a first timer as well. But don’t stress! This is all normal, and all part of the process. Young man, you have nothing to fear. Odds are all his stories were complete lies or retelling of stories from his older brothers. When you consider the pressures we were under back then it does make sense. I mean, the sexual talk is unavoidable among young men. We’re socialized from that young to be all about the booty, all about getting the hot girls and doing the most with them. Where this socialization originated is a debate for the anthropologists and sociologists, but whatever the origin, it permeates unavoidably today. I must admit though, these stories are not very healthy. They do very little to actually explain the nuances of sex, and even less to prepare us for that first experience. Now, if you’re reading this and you have experiences already, think back on them: Was your first time anything like you had seen on TV or heard about from the gents? Nope, probably not. If, however, you’re reading this without experiences then you’re lucky, I’m here to break the truth to you, and it will definitely help out. 16
