There’s a song by MOLOKO ,a local musician,
whose party lyrics read Give up yourself unto
the moment, The time is now, Give yourself unto
the moment the time, Let’s make this moment
last.
We have all heard of GENERATION Y- the baby
boomers and so called millennials’. The social
marketing company WJSchroer defines Gen Y as
those kids who are sophisticated in their own
right and are techno savvy because they have
been exposed to technology from a young age.
They are less loyal to any brand and can always
replace an existing brand with one that they
have researched themselves through the Internet.
They don’t wait for information to reach their
ears as go-getters they go out looking for
information to better their lives.
Well,Gen Y, there’s a new kid on the block
Generation Z – is the next level; this generation
is exposed to highly sophisticated technologies
that provide them with endless opportunities.
This generation is growing up in an environment
of disruptors where existing rules are being rewritten. They care less about other brands they
believe that they themselves are a Brand. They
are questioning the status quo and I believe we
could learn a lot from them.
One word to describe Generation Z is Carpe
Diem – Seize the moment
HOW TO SEIZE THE
MOMENT
Most of the University and School students
are looking forward to the July winter break
where they will have some free time from the
books. Do you have any plans or will you be
lazing around during the winter break.
Successful people know the value of time and
use it to improve their capabilities.
In seizing the moment every minute and every
second counts – no time should be wasted.
Well I have a plan - the top 5 things that the
students can do to develop themselves during
their free time:
1. Volunteering – volunteering is a great
way of building job experience for your CV.
When you complete your studies some
employers will require you to have some
form of work experience. There are several
organisations that offer these volunteering
opportunities in and around your community.
Visit www.ikamvayouth.org and
www.volunteersa.com or
www.volunteering.org.za for more
information
2. Travel – this is entirely dependant on
affordability. There are several discount
travel websites that encourage South
Africans to club together and be tourists in
our own country
