# “TIME IS ON YOUR SIDE, DONT LET THE SUN GO DOWN ON YOUR DREAMS HESAYS School’s out. July is here and with it the schools and universities of the country close up for the chilly winter holiday. More often than not, we haven’t made any plans for all this time we are about to have on our hands...we go with the flow like that. It is tempting to spend our time having drinks with the friends, binging on series or snuggling up with bae. While these are all well and good for keeping us content It would do us all a world of good to remember that while we’re on holiday, time isn’t on holiday. The difference between successful people and the not so successful people, is what they choose to do with their time: The truly great among us would rather choose to spend their holidays improving themselves and their lives. It is the tougher choice to make, choosing to build ones future over instant gratification, but those who make that choice are the ones we look up to. There is no better time than holiday time to get your mind right and prioritise. Take the case of the 14 year old American boy, Robert Nay. During his school holidays he frequented the local public library and taught himself to write app code. He then went on to write around 4000 lines of code and thus created the game ‘Bubble Ball’, which went on to become the most downloaded game on iTunes. With only a month of work the teenager was able to create a fortune for himself and he then went on to become the CEO of his own app company, Nay Games. Bringing it back home: Alex Fourie, a South African young man, used his spare time and holidays to repair the broken Apple and Samsung devices of his friends and classmates. Using this skill he went on to found his repair company iFix, which now services more than 400o clients a month in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg The principle is a simple one: discover your passion; follow that passion; set realistic practical goals and use your time wisely to work towards those goals. 17
