Virginia Home Inspector Requirements
By Drew Howard , President, HomePro, Inc.
There have been several
changes to the law in Virginia
related to home inspector
requirements.
“Licensee” means a home inspector as
defined in Chapter 5 (§ 54.1-500 et seq.) of
Title 54.1 of the Code of Virginia.
“Licensure” means a method of regulation
whereby the Commonwealth, through the
issuance of a license, authorizes a person pos-
sessing the character and minimum skills to
engage in the practice of a profession or occu-
pation that is unlawful to practice without
such license.
Residential Code. The minimum provisions
for a report prepared by a licensed home
inspector (18 VAC15-40-130) were amended
to conform to Chapter 805 of the 2017 Acts of
Assembly.
Remember your Home Inspector should be
licensed by DPOR. Always tag along on the
inspection. 4 eyes are better than 2.

inspections, radon, mold, renovation, or want
