In April – for the second straight year – trainer Chad Harper and his dog , Rowen , took first place in the Randy Hare School for Dog Trainers Narcotics Scramble , a timed , one-minute exercise to work past distraction odors and locate the narcotic odor . Rowen completed the exercise in
“ We count it a real privilege to come alongside residential treatment centers and their patients to help aid in the recovery of substance abuse ,” Bill said . “ We ’ re there to protect the clients that are serious about wanting to stay clean and sober . Patients shouldn ’ t see our K9 teams as punitive or retribution , but rather an accountability tool to help them . We want to be able to relate to them , and as our K9s are very socialized , they love interacting and receiving belly rubs from the patients .”
A New Venture
For the past year , Bill and his team have received a lot of requests from private pet owners to help them with obedience training . In January of this year , Bill purchased three franchises from Elissa Weimer , owner of Paw & Order Dog Training in Pittsburgh . One franchise is located in Central Ohio , the second in southwest Florida , and the third will launch in Houston , Texas , later this year .
“ I am excited for the future of American K9 Detection Services and what opportunities lie ahead ,” Bill said . “ The partnerships we have been able to form in the past couple of years are special and we are truly privileged to be able to come alongside individuals and drug prevention programs and help do our part in eradicating drugs throughout the state of Ohio .”
