Darrell Smith has nine years of service in Human Resources with the State of Georgia , and 12 years of service in Human Resources in the private sector . He currently holds a bachelor ’ s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management . He is currently the ADA Coordinator / Safety Manager / Human Resources Manager for the Georgia Department of Community Supervision . His experience varies from providing ADA training for the agency , individualized coaching for employees handling clients with disabilities , ADA accommodations , ADA grievances , monitoring for ADA compliance , ADA Office training sessions , ADA policy and public notice publications , ADA Legal declarations and discoveries , New Employee On-Boarding and Orientation , Payroll , Benefits , Workers Compensation , FMLA , GBA Contact and Coordinator relations , Employee Engagement Survey Rollout , State Charitable Contribution Program , Performance Management Processes – Notifications , training , & Peoplesoft records , Training , HR Transactions in Peoplesoft System ( Previous Transactions Manager ) Liaison for Police Officer Annuity and Benefit Fund of Georgia .

Darrell Smith was recently featured in the State of Georgia Agency ADA Coordinator Spotlight . Below is a recap of of the interview .
Q . " How many years of service do you have with the State " A . " 9 years ."
Q . " How many years of service do you have as an ADA Coordinator ?" A . " 2 years ."
Q . " What do you enjoy most about being an ADA Coordinator ?"
A . “ What I enjoy most is being able to help those with disabilities acquire the help and service they need . I also enjoy being able to service our agency and our employees , in training , coaching , and development in the area of working with individuals with disabilities and assisting them in better understanding and having knowledge of the ADA .”
Q . " What are some ADA initiatives within the Department that you are proud to share ?"
A . “ DCS has established an annual ADA training with the collaboration of our agency ’ s training department . DCS also has a collaborative initiative and partnership within the agency to capture supervisees with disabilities when they first become supervised by our agency . We provided individualized coaching to employees , managers , and leadership to guide them through accommodating the ADA .”
FAST FACTS ON DARRELL
Managed promotion of the ADA process throughout the agency . Created ADA documents to help officers with effectively assisting deaf offenders on their caseloads . Developed a grievance procedure for supervisees to address their concerns . Working on long term plans that are being implemented daily on handling individuals at Intake to address and document disability . Worked with the State ADA Office to create a Public Notice Posting to ensure supervisees and visitors coming to our locations , that we comply with ADA requirements and who the ADA Coordinator is who can assist them . Coordinated and executed the training for officers and employees who are in contact with individuals under our supervision , visitors , or guests who may have a disability and need to know how to use the service . Coordinated training with the agency ’ s interpreter app to ensure employees understand how to use the ASL online interpreter when assisting an individual . Provide support on behalf of DCS attending deposition hearings for our employees being questioned for the case . Working closely with the State ADA office to maintain knowledge of ADA requirements , and to utilize their resources if needed . Worked with ADA Focus Group to look at the policies , and processes in place for ADA .
