Best Practices for Rural Communities
After 2020 , we are all too familiar with some of the negative images of police and citizens interaction . On January 21 , the Reentry Services Division had the honor of hosting a presentation regarding Creating Effective Community Partnerships . Chief Louis M . Dekmar of the LaGrange Police Department facilitated the conversation and discussed how police agencies deal with social issues that are not directly related to law enforcement but frequently become enforcement actions when opportunities to intervene are missed , ignored , or mishandled .
For almost two decades , the LaGrange Police Department has worked deliberately in racial trust-building and in partnership with various citizens , and over 70 non-profits , faith-based programs , and other government agencies to link citizens in need with effective services . During the presentation , Chief Dekmar spoke to approximately 50 attendees on how the LaGrange Police Department positioned itself to work alongside community partners to ensure those in their communities have the best option for success .
