pandemic has demonstrated the value of providing robust life insurance coverage and an enhanced policy to protect one from various critical illnesses that have made it onto the list over time . These enhancements – which come at no additional cost to existing members – aim to protect a members ’ well-being by expanding the ambit of treatment options as costs may sometimes prohibit optimal treatment .

This is how the enhancements on the PPS Critical Illness Cover work for the various ailments :
1 . Cancer
To ensure that members gain maximum value , they are now covered for low severity conditions that were previously excluded , including early cancers like Group 1 cancer of the Prostate and micro-carcinoma of the thyroid and bladder .
Should a PPS member be diagnosed with cancer and receive a claim pay-out from the main Critical illness cover , the EXACT benefit will now pay an additional lump sum if the cancer proves to be susceptible to targeted therapy treatment .
2 . Cardiovascular
The cover now provides access to claims for minor heart attacks and other cardiovascular diseases . Members can qualify for up to 25 % in claims for balloon stretching or stenting of one coronary vessel . Previously this applied to two or more diseased vessels .
3 . Respiratory diseases expanded
Members can claim for moderate-severe , severe-obstructive and restrictive lung disease , this includes : emphysema ,
severe non-responsive asthma and chronic bronchitis . Cor pulmonale , a lung condition secondary to heart disease , has also been added .
4 . Urogenital diseases
Kidney disease is a common debility in South Africa . Members are now covered for acute transient kidney failure that requires dialysis . Previously , only chronic failure was covered .
Over and above these , the Critical Illness Cover provides further benefits best suited for professionals , including frontline workers . These benefits cover physiological failures within the neurological , endocrine , gastro-intestinal , connective tissue , musculoskeletal and sensory systems . As part of the sensory system cover , members can now even claim for cochlear implants . In the case of trauma , claims as a result of burns have been enhanced .
