Yoko Ono , wife of the legendary Beatles frontman John Lennon , once said : “ Spring passes and one remembers one ’ s innocence . Summer passes and one remembers one ’ s exuberance . Autumn passes and one remembers one ’ s reverence . Winter passes and one remembers one ’ s perseverance .”
Now , amid the South African winter , I often ponder about how much we all had to persevere the past two years . The COVID-19 pandemic brought challenges to all . But then , just as things seem to improve , political turmoil in Europe brought new challenges , even to our shores far on the southern tip of Africa . Consider how fuel prices skyrocketed in recent months . However , it is impressive to see how so many persevered regardless of these challenges .
PPS is one such entity that weathered the storm and remained a constant to its members regardless of what happened around us . Have a look on page 6 to see how we managed to support our members in 2021 .
Our Group CEO , Izak Smit , borrows some insights from the evergreen bard , William Shakespeare , to see what we can learn about life cycles from one of his famous poems ( page 8 ).
With the fickle environment we find ourselves in due to the pandemic and political instability in Europe , there is often much uncertainty about what one should do with one ’ s investments . David Crosoer , Chief Investment Officer at PPS Investments , encourages us on page 13 to think big about our investments while Linda Sherlock , Executive : Wealth & Business Development at PPS Advisory Services and Enablement , helps us navigate through investment turmoil on page 19 .
In the article on page 21 , Dr Elizabeth Meyer , Chief Medical Officer of PPS Health Professions Indemnity , asks the question of whether telemedicine is really a modern marvel or rather an indemnity headache .
