taking responsibility for how we fill our time .
It boils down to priorities . If we do not prioritise things in our lives , somebody else will . Technology has also lowered the barrier for others to influence what we should be focusing on . We often need space to escape , in order to discern the essential few from the trivial many . Unfortunately , in our busy worlds , we do not get that space by default , only by design . Pablo Picasso once said : “ Without great solitude , no serious work is possible .” Most professionals would agree .
A trap that most of us often fall into is to take on too much , thinking that we can
“ have it all or do it all ”. We have to accept that this is a dangerous premise . We can do anything , but we cannot do everything . Jim Collins , author of classics like Good to Great and Built to Last , was once advised by Peter Drucker , the father of modern management thinking , that he could either build a great company , or build great ideas , but not both . Jim chose ideas . The result ? His business still only has three full-time employees , but his ideas have touched tens of millions .
May one of the positives that we take from the COVID- 19 lockdown experience be a commitment to lead simpler and more fulfilling lives . We were artificially forced to experiment with that . May we retain some of the lessons learned .
