Editorial
In February this year , I travelled to KwaZulu-Natal by road . I have travelled this road many times in my life , but this year , I must admit , I even took my sunglasses off on several occasions to see if it was the tinting on the lenses that made everything look so bright green , or if it was really so green .
Yes , the glasses did add some brightness to the view , but only a little . As far as the eye could see as we went down Van Reenen ’ s Pass , it was lush and green . Everything was growing . Fields of maize standing strong and high , soya plants so tall one had to do a double-take to ensure it was truly soy . Cattle nice and fat . Dams overflowing .
The heavy rains big parts of South Africa were blessed with is , of course , the reason for all this growth . After almost two years where many of us did not even travel – and could not observe such growth easily as we experienced many challenges and hardships – it is appropriate that the theme for this edition is growth . At PPS , we are the eternal optimists , and now , still at the beginning of 2022 , we believe that this is going to be a year of growth . Not only growth in the financial wellness of our members , but also their overall wellness – physical and mental .
From the first pages of this edition , you will find yourself in a forest of hope and optimism . Our Group CEO , Izak Smit , gives a sneak preview of our financial results to be released soon on page 6 and some insights on what he learned from trees about growth in business and other walks of life on page 7 .
