Mexican superfood hot chocolate

Who doesn ’ t love a “ hot choccie ” in the dead cold of winter ? This recipe is next-level with its adaptogens , antiinflammatory spices and superfood benefits , while still being so delicious and chocolatey .
Ingredients :
• 2.5 cups of milk of your choice ( oat milk works really well here )
• cup of cocoa powder ( unsweetened ) or cacao powder
• 3 fresh medjool dates , pitted and chopped , or 1-2 tbsp honey or pure maple syrup
• 2 tsp maca / reishi / hemp powder , depending on preference
• Half a tsp of cinnamon
Instructions
1 . If using dates , melt the coconut oil in a saucepan over medium heat and add the chopped dates . Using a wooden spoon , stir and work the dates against the bottom of the pan , as they heat up and create a paste . Otherwise skip this step .
2 . Add the milk to the pan with date paste or sweetener of choice and coconut oil . Bring the milk to a gentle simmer .
3 . Add the cocoa / cacao powder and whisk until smooth . This is also where you can add your nut butter and whisk it in .
4 . Add the maca / reishi / hemp powder and the spices . Whisk continuously while the milk mixture and simmers , for about two minutes .
5 . Divide the mixture into two warm mugs and enjoy .
• 1 / 4 tsp dried ginger , or 3 fresh slices
• 1 / 8 tsp turmeric powder
• Pinch of cayenne pepper
• Pinch of salt
• 1-2 tsp coconut oil
• Nut butter , optional
• Marshmallows , optional
