Magic comes with patience
Which brings me to PPS and our members’ PPS Profit- Share Accounts™ *. In essence, it is so much about exponential growth – compounding. The financial returns that build it in the initial years might seem small. Our members can increase it by using more of our great solutions across the various business areas, and they will then also benefit from PPS Profit- Share Cross-Holdings Booster * allocations. But like Buffett’ s fortune, it might seem pedestrian initially. But after a couple of years, investment compounding on past allocations starts to do its magic. We are not far from the balances of our biggest PPS Profit- Share Accounts™ surpassing R10 million. I can see it becoming more than R20 million during the 2030s. And I can easily see the PPS Insurance Company balance sheet, which is at the time of writing already more than R50 billion, enormous given the size of our revenue, doubling and then re-doubling over the next decade or two. Compounding is a beautiful thing if you are patient!
What appears small today – a choice, a habit, a belief – can compound into something great over time. Like water shaping rock or a single grain doubling across a chessboard, the forces that truly shape our lives are often slow, patient and unseen. To live wisely, then, is to look beyond the moment and act not for what is immediate but for what will endure.
