SPOTLIGHT
There , at a quiet intersection in the hills of Greece , the great hero had to decide , a decision that would determine his future , his destiny .
At the point where the road diverged lay a beautiful goddess . She offered him every temptation . She promised him a life of ease and pleasure . He would never taste want or pain . Follow her , she said , and his every desire would be fulfilled . It would be a life of leisure !
But on the other path stood a sterner goddess in a pure white robe . Her call was a different one . She promised no rewards except those that come from living a disciplined life of hard work . It would be a long and hard journey , she said . There would be a sacrifice . There would be suffering . But … it would be a journey fit for a god . It would make him the person he was meant to be .
Empowering our futures with discipline

Nobody knows whether it really happened , and if it did , where and when . We hear of it in Greek mythology and Socrates wrote about it . The moment is captured in some beautiful Renaissance art . It almost became the image on the official seal of the United States of America in 1776 . It is the moment when Hercules came to the crossroads .
It was , of course , the choice between vice and virtue , the easy and hard way , the welltrodden path that most follow , or the narrow road less travelled . Hesitating only briefly , Hercules chose the one that made all the difference . He chose virtue . If it is only a legend , does this story matter ? To us ? Today ?
Yes ! Very much so . This is the story for all of us . About our dilemmas , our crossroads . Which we face every day . From the moment the alarm wakes us in the mornings . For Hercules , the crossroads was not a singular event . It is a daily challenge , one we face not once , but constantly , repeatedly , every day .
