NEW VIEWS ON LEADERSHIP
As one can imagine – and by simply strolling through the business section of any bookstore – theories about what leadership is and how it can be developed continue to evolve .
The most recent phase , the New Leadership Era , challenges the individual-centric view of leadership , promoting theories such as the transformational , servant and authentic leadership theories , which focuses on vision , empowerment , ethics and emotional intelligence .
One “ new ” leadership theory that stands out , however , is the Synergistic Leadership Theory , which marks a significant shift towards recognising the value of collaboration , diversity and shared goals in leadership .
The Synergistic Leadership Theory was first developed in August 2002 by Beverly J . Irby , Genevieve Brown , Jo Ann Duffy and Diane Trautman . Essentially , they argue that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts . They say that when leaders leverage their team ’ s diverse talents , perspectives and strengths , they can achieve shared goals and objectives that would be impossible to reach alone . This approach creates an environment where everyone feels valued , empowered and motivated to contribute their best to the team ’ s success .
Theory , trust is the foundation of effective teamwork . The theorists argue that to be a good synergistic leader , one must cultivate trust by demonstrating consistency and reliability , encouraging open communication and honouring commitments . They predict this will create a team that feels psychologically safe to share ideas without fear of ridicule , take calculated risks and learn from failures .
Clear communication and a shared vision are vital in this style of leadership . Synergistic leaders ensure that every team member understands their roles , responsibilities and expectations . This fosters a sense of purpose and direction .
Encouraging collaboration and teamwork by breaking down silos allows knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary synergy . Empowering and developing team members to reach their full potential is another pillar of this leadership style , providing guidance , support and resources while allowing autonomy and investing in professional development .

WHAT IS SYNERGISTIC LEADERSHIP ALL ABOUT ?
If one considers the Traits Theory and asks : “ what leadership traits would make me a great synergistic leader ?” there is one trait that stands out : trust . According to the creators of the Synergistic Leadership
Furthermore , PPS has the chance to lead by example and demonstrate the potential of synergistic leadership in achieving collective well-being for all stakeholders . Ultimately , by adopting a synergistic approach , we can work towards mutual benefits for the greater good .
