In an historic feat for South Africa , a group of daring sailors – including Anton Hofman , an actuary at PPS – secured victory in Race 3 of the demanding Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 2023-2024 on the yacht Dare to Lead . Their triumphant arrival in Cape Town in November 2023 is a remarkable milestone , conquering an impressive 3 555 nautical miles from Punta del Este , Uruguay , surpassing ten other competing teams . Anton ’ s passion for sailing burgeoned during family vacations , but his true sailing journey started in 2019 when he sailed from Velddrif to Langebaan , experiencing the ocean ’ s vastness for the first time . Reflecting on this transformative journey , Anton remarks , “ Looking back to land and travelling without using diesel was a revelation . No engines , just the wind . It is cool . I love nature and the outdoors – the fresh air . I was hooked .”
