Dear readers,
We created this zine to discuss the issues of the cost of higher education. As a group, we feel that the price of learning after high school can be extremely overpriced. This lead us to wonder, why are colleges so expensive? How does this issue of money affect the lives of people wanting to obtain a college degree? Could lowering the cost of college solve economical and social problems that we face in our country today? Is the price fair? We explored many different subtopics surrounding education costs in an effort to truly capture its importance and inspire others to take action. In addition, we hope that this zine will help you through your education journey and goals.
The first step to a higher education is choosing your school. As Ana said in her advice column, “Follow your heart.” Don’t let anyone get in the way, because this is your choice, not theirs. To help you reach goals and success in your new school look for Ava’s DIY notebook and Mina’s success recipe. Ava’s notebook should be created while you are choosing a school, because it was created to help you find what you would like to achieve by the end of the year, “It is easy to forget where you want your life to end up, and how you would like to get there.” Now, Mina’s success recipe can be used at any time that it is needed. It is great way to help you with the goals you want to achieve that you established in Ava’s notebook.
After you choose your college you need to find scholarships and other forms of money to help you with school. Financial situations can often be a problem. In Rachel’s piece Paying for College, multiple methods for producing funds are discussed, and will perhaps help prospective college students on their quest for a higher education. As Rachel said in her piece, “There are many existing programs that offer financial assistance that can dramatically reduce the final cost of attending college.”
