First, the author points out the issue that Wilde believed

that “art carried an inherent value being only worthy

due to its beauty”, more than ethics or morals. (8) In

other words, it is the necessary to be good-looking, as

Dorian is in the book, than be unnoticed by the world.

Second, the author explains that it is better to get out

of standards and be different, be awesome to others.

Drumova explains, “Beauty rules through the whole of

the novel. The society in The Picture of Dorian Gray adores

beauty, putting youth and physical appeal at the top of

the main values.” (7) Also, the author states that,

“Physical appearance was extremely important in the

Victorian era. The one’s dress signaled about occupation

and status in the society.” (7) ”
