Beatrix Havergal (1901-1980) and Waterperry students at the Chelsea strawberry stand as recorded by Valerie Finnis (1924-2006). Beatrix Havergal trained at Thatcham Fruit and Flower Farm School and gained first class honours in RHS examinations. With her partner Avice Sanders she founded a Horticultural School for women, moving to Waterperry House in Oxford in 1932. Pupils from the college received many RHS medals and Havergal became a member of the RHS Examinations Board. Waterperry closed as a college in 1971.
