Sponsorship of a special class at the 75th
London Show of the British Fuchsia Society
The James Lye Fuchsia Collection is pleased to announce that it will be sponsoring a special class to celebrate the 75th British Fuchsia Society, London Show on Sunday 17th August 2014.
Kristopher Harper (Owner of the James Lye Fuchsia Collection) and Carol Gubler (London Show Secretary) are keen to mark the 75th Anniversary of the first British Fuchsia Society annual show, which was held on 18 and 19 July 1939 in The Royal Horticultural Society’s Hall in Westminster, with a special class which is in the spirit of the classes from the original 1939 show schedule.
When deciding on what the special class should be they were tempted for it to be a class of 4 pyramids or a 12 pot class, but currently there are very few fuchsia exhibitors growing pyramids and 12 fuchsias for one class. They finally decided that the Special 75th Anniversary Class should be: 4 cultivars distinctly different, which were available in or before 1938. Prize money will be awarded for this special class, equating to what would have been awarded for a similar class in 1939 where the first prize attracted prize money of 15/-. Annual subscriptions at that time were 5/- for a full membership. For the Special 75th Anniversary class the prize money will be: First prize £42.00, Second prize £28 and Third prize £14.

The British Fuchsia Society 75th London Show will be held on Sunday 17 August at Normandy Village Hall, Manor Fruit Farm, Glaziers Lane, Normandy, Surrey, GU3 2DD. The show will be open from 12.30 to 4.30 and entrance is £1 with members of The British Fuchsia Society and children free.
Carol Gubler, the Show Secretary said “We have always been aware that the show is the oldest specialist fuchsia show in the country and so the opportunity to acknowledge the first Annual Show thanks to the generous sponsorship of Kristopher Harper will create a great buzz at the Show!”
