Maureen Melvin was born in Yorkshire and has written verse since early childhood. After studying singing and drama at the Royal College of Music she became Principal Soprano with the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company touring Britain, USA and Canada for several years. Married with three grown up sons and five grand daughters, she has appeared in films and on television and has been broadcast on radio. Her first book of verse, Paws for Thought, was published in 1990 and sold over 50 thousand copies, this was followed by four more books of poetry. Maureen has presented her poems live on radio and in public, and her work has been published extensively in national magazines and newspapers.
